Have you ever been in a situation where you find someone dealing with health problem or an accident and you don't knows what to do? Although, it's very common to find people around you suffering from ailments while travelling or going to work, moreover it gives you a very warm feeling when walking down to the person, sharing your small knowledge turns out to be a life saving. Where this life saving knowledge can only are learnt from the education imparted on First Aid. First aid is not a training given for medical extensive but with this, it can be rest assured for making a difference when it is the matter of life and death.
In UK every year, thousands of people die or curiously injured in accidents. Many of these deaths could have been blocked if first aid was to the injured at the scene of the accident before waiting for the emergency services arrive. The first few minutes after an injury are very crucial for the survivor, thus if given some first aid instantly can lower the risk 100 times.

  • The British Heart Foundation predicted that there are approximately 124, 000 heart attacks each year in the UK.
  • Road accidents are one of the top ten causes of death in all over world.

Some life can be saved if they get proper first aid.
The aims of first aid
Protect life: Your first aim is to protect life by carrying out emergency first aid procedures.
Avoid devaluation: Secondly, you should attempt to avoid the casualty's condition from deteriorating further. This could include asking them to stay still to prevent movement of possible fractures.
Encourage recovery: Finally, you can encourage recovery by arranging prompt emergency medical help.
Should teenagers be learning First Aid as part of their formal education?
In UK, an analysis of primary and secondary students was conducted; in which every 8 out of 10 pupils said they would feel more positive in helping people around them if they were taught First Aid. They also felt that the society would think more deeply of them if they knew youngsters were First Aid trained.
Students aged at or above 11 years of age, are physically capable of administering First Aid. However at this age they have eventually reached a level of mental maturity where they can deal with all the outcomes of their actions whether it'll positive or negative".
First-aid training in schools must be a compulsory part of the curriculum forming part of Personal, Social and Health Education (PSE). It plays a crucial part in protection health education or even death
Conducted researches shows that youthful people want to learn about First Aid, moreover teenagers feel helpless if they are not able to help a loved one.
Pre-school kids were taught First Aid using the 'five-finger-rule' system:
(1)View at the person.
(2) Talk to them.
(3) Feel them to try to wake them up.
(4) Call emergency services.
(5) Lastly, stay and give comfort.
Some data About Parents taught on First aid:
  • More than 1 in 5 (21%) parents don't think knowing first aid as being important
  • More than 62% parents often found saying, knowing first aid techniques would make them feel more adapted for parenthood.
  • 65% of the parents say, the thought of their children needing immediate first aid mediation makes them feel worried.
Frequent Problems: The most commons elements of needless death from a lack of first aid are:
  • choking and breathing difficulties
  • heart attack/heart not beating
  • severe bleeding
Different Forms where first aid is needed:
Breathing difficulties: If someone stops breathing. If you're alone, perform basic life support (BLS) for one minute before going for help.
  1. Place the victim on his or her back on the floor.
  2. Slant the head, so that the chin is pointing upwards. Make sure the tongue is not blocking the throat.
  3. Keep griping the head in this way, while analyzing for breathing. Keep attention if the chest is rising and falling, or position your ear next to their mouth to listen for breathing and feel breath on your cheek.
  4. If there's normal breathing, hold the head as defined above until help arrives. If there's no breathing or choking breaths, start BLS.
Do not break for any other reason, until someone else can take over from you.
Bleeding
Small cuts: Small cuts in the veins stop bleeding and stop within a few minutes. The space should then be cleaned, and a plaster placed gently on top.
Deeper cuts: These cuts in the veins produce black blood that seeps out slowly and regularly. It can be stopped by soft pressure on the wound with a sterile or hygienic cloth.
Often, these wounds need medical treatment will be necessary after first aid.
Nosebleeds: It is loss of blood from the tissue, lining beneath the nose.
  • Do not angel the head backwards, because it increases blood pressure and bleeding.
  • Grasp the nostrils shut with the index and middle finger for 10 minutes, while the nostrils are shut, the person must breathe through their mouth
  • If the bleeding continues, contact a doctor.
Choking: It happens when the passage through the windpipe is blocked. If someone choked, ask them if they're able to talk.
  • The best way to relieve choking is by giving black bows.
Procedure if someone is in shock?
  1. The victim must lie on their back. And his or her feet.
  2. Make sure the victim is comfortable, warm and covered by a blanket if possible.
  3. Do not give them anything to drink because it can be chocked.
  4. Call for an ambulance. A person in shock must always be treated by a doctor.
Heart Attack: The signs to look for are intense chest pain, ashen skin with blue lips, breathlessness and feeling faint. This is serious stuff so phone for the emergency services and request an ambulance immediately. Keep the casualty calm and boost them to rest.
The Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 will be amended, to remove the requirement for HSE to approve first aid training and qualifications, from 1 October 2013.
First Aid Education: Basic First Aid education covers a vast range of topics from delicacy burns and scalds through to guide asthma and injuries. The guidance, although not specific for teenagers, teaches techniques and skills that can be applied to an individual regardless of age. It can also help kids and elders understand the value of life and the need of communication and unity, as well as boost dignity of you.
Finally, first aid is a valuable life skill. A first aid education can help your CV/personal statement, or even open up opportunities for job. First aid education creates a difference between life and death.
